Griz's Miller Knows Role For USA

LAS VEGAS -- Mike Miller has won an international gold medal, but he is hungry for another.

During the 2001 Goodwill games in Brisbane, Australia, Miller was 21 and fresh off winning the NBA's Rookie of the Year award. Six years later, Miller is the lone returnee from those Goodwill Games and is doing what he knows best for Team USA in its Olympic qualifier, the FIBA Americas Championship: shooting.

"I know my role is going to be coming off the bench, but when I'm in there I want to play with intensity and, when I get the ball, to hit my shots," Miller said.

Alongside Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard, Jason Kidd and so many other NBA All-Stars, Miller might seem like the odd man out when it comes to getting the floor time he's used to as a guard for the Grizzlies.

Team USA's opening game against Venezuela provided little competition in a 112-69 victory. With high-flying dunks by Amare Stoudamire and the triple threat of Bryant, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, the United States not only put on quite a show, it put to rest whispers that a team full of superstars wouldn't work together.
